Rarity and Attribute SystemThe Valantis rarity system lets you improve equipment through rarity tiers, random attributes, and attribute upgrades. The system uses materials from Mining, Dungeons, bosses, and Elite Creatures. In short: gather fragments, turn them into shards, craft essences and runes, then use those runes to ascend, attune, bind, or purge equipment.
1. Gather Materials
Mine fragments and collect rare materials from gameplay.
2. Craft Materials
Convert fragments into shards, then shards into essences.
3. Obtain Runes
Craft Ascension, Attunement, and Purge runes. Binding Runes are obtained only from bosses.
4. Build Your Item
Ascend for new attributes, Attune strong rolls, Bind attributes you want to keep, and Purge unwanted rolls.
System OverviewRarity upgrades are split into two different actions: increasing an item's rarity tier, and improving an attribute already on the item. These are separate steps with separate requirements.
Rarity Tier
Items can progress from Tier 0 to Tier 4.
Attribute Slots
Higher rarity tiers allow more attributes on the item.
Attribute Strength
Attunement improves existing attributes, but does not add new ones.
Rare Drops
Monsters may rarely drop equipment that already has rarity.
Important
Rarity controls how many attributes an item can have. Attunement controls how strong an existing attribute becomes. Runes and Their PurposeRunes are the main tools used to interact with the rarity system. Each rune has a different role.
Ascension Rune
Used on an item to attempt a rarity tier upgrade.
Attunement Rune
Used on an item to improve one existing random attribute.
Binding Rune
Temporarily locks the item's current attributes so they can survive the next Purge. Binding Runes are boss-drop only.
Purge Rune
Removes unwanted attributes. If attributes are bound, the bound attributes are preserved and the Binding is consumed.
Ascension Rune
Attempts to raise the item's rarity tier. On success, the item gains the next rarity tier and unlocks a new random attribute.
Attunement Rune
Improves the strength of one existing random attribute. It does not increase rarity and does not add a new attribute.
Binding Rune
Locks all attributes currently on the item. The lock exists to protect those attributes from the next Purge Rune. Binding Runes cannot be crafted and are obtained only as boss drops.
Purge Rune
Removes unwanted attributes from an item and returns part of the invested progression materials. When a Binding is active, bound attributes are preserved, only unlocked attributes are removed, and the Binding is consumed. Binding RuneThe Binding Rune gives you a way to protect a good set of attributes while continuing to chase another roll. It does not add an attribute and it does not improve an attribute. Instead, it temporarily locks the attributes already present on the item so they are protected from the next Purge Rune.
Important
A Binding is consumed when the Purge Rune is used. If you want to protect the remaining attributes before another Ascension attempt, you must use another Binding Rune first.
Binding Rune
Boss-drop only Example: Protecting a Good Roll
Simple Rule
Good attributes already on the item: Bind them. New Ascension roll is unwanted: Purge it. Want protection again afterward: use another Binding Rune. Ascension RequirementsAscension is used when you want to increase an item's rarity tier. Each attempt requires one Ascension Rune and the Essence matching the tier you are trying to reach.
Ascension Flow
Use Ascension when you want to move an item to the next rarity tier and unlock another attribute slot. Attunement RequirementsAttunement is used after an item already has attributes. It improves one existing random attribute on the item.
Attunement Flow
Use Attunement when the item already has an attribute you want to improve. The affected attribute is selected randomly from the existing attributes. Rarity Upgrade ChancesHigher rarity tiers are harder to reach. Failed attempts consume the required materials.
Upgrade Risk
Ascension is chance based. The higher the tier, the lower the success chance. Craftable Rune RequirementsThese are the materials required to craft Ascension, Attunement, and Purge Runes. The Binding Rune is not craftable and is obtained only from bosses.
Crafting vs Drops
Ascension, Attunement, and Purge Runes are crafted. Binding Runes are excluded from this table because they are boss-drop only. Rune creation requirements are separate from any additional materials required when a rune is used. Material ProgressionMaterials follow a simple chain. Fragments become shards, shards become essences, and essences are used for runes and upgrades.
Fragments
Basic mining materials gathered from Mining.
Shards
Created by combining six fragments of the same type.
Essences
Crafted from shards and used for rune creation or ascension.
Runes
Final upgrade tools used directly on equipment.
Fragment and Shard ConversionSix fragments of the same type combine into one shard.
Shard Conversion
Fragments can be converted to shards at Grumdir Stoneforge by progressing in The Ironbound Pact faction. Essence CreationEssences are crafted from shards and lower tier essences. Higher tier essences are used for higher rarity upgrades.
Essence Conversion
Shards can be converted into Essences at Grumdir Stoneforge by progressing in The Ironbound Pact faction. Enchanted LootMonsters may drop items with built-in rarity. Each item has a Rarity Factor between 4 and 10 based on item strength, slot, and category. Enchant Rules
Enchant Formula
Enchant Chance = (Rarity Factor ÷ Item Drop Chance) × 100 Elite Creature ScalingElite Creatures perform additional loot rolls and improve enchant quality through Elite Stars.
More Loot Rolls
Elite creatures increase the amount of loot generated.
Better Enchants
Elite Stars increase effective Rarity Factor.
Base Drop Preserved
Enchant calculations still use original drop rates.
Higher Star Scaling
More stars increase enchant quality further.
Elite Formula
Elite Rarity Bonus = Base Factor × (1 + Elite Stars) Death RiskRarity progression has risk. Dying can cause rarity loss unless the item is protected.
Grace of Preservation
Item rarity has a 10% chance to downgrade on death. This can be prevented by receiving Grace of Preservation from Oldrak. Attribute ListAttributes are the bonuses granted through rarity progression. Ascension adds new attributes, while Attunement improves existing ones.
